This sweet baby girl's mom, Sierra, and I met online. Yep, you read that right! I was looking for a family for a model call and searched my Instagram followers for a family with a small child who may be interested in modeling for me. I sent her a direct message, fully aware that this going to be a really weird way to strike up a conversation, "Hey! I am a newborn photographer in Pinehurst, would you like to model for me?" Thankfully it turned our she and I had a few mutual friends, so they could also vouch for me! Sierra also let me know at that time was not only would she be willing to model for me but she also was expecting her baby. As a Pinehurst newborn photographer, I love developing relationships with my clients and Sierra and I were fast friends. I loved getting to know her during that maternity session and she was one of the most peaceful mama's I've met.
I was so thrilled when Sierra asked me to photograph her new baby girl, I arrived at the home in the morning and spent some time with the proud big brother. To begin a session I often ask the siblings to take me on a quick tour of the house. During this tour I am just looking for good pockets of light in each room as well as studying the light patterns in your house. There is never a need to deep clean your house before a newborn session-no way. All we will do is select the room or rooms we want to shoot in based on lighting and do a quick declutter to make it photo ready.
On this particularly sunny day we had no problem finding great light but please no I have shot in very dark rooms before or on rainy days! Modern cameras are fantastic tools, so please don't panic if it rains on your shoot day.
As you can see in these snapshots from of our session, newborn in home sessions are casual, fun and produce a great variety of images! Need to feed the baby? No problem! We take breaks throughout the time together to give each family member a breather. I always make sure to make the older siblings feel extra special during the family sessions!
